Simple, Fast, and Fully Explained
This page explains the nature of a title pawn transaction with Georgia Title Pawn and provides the disclosures required of a licensed Georgia title pawn business. Please read it before entering into a title pawn. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you sign, and we will explain it.
Georgia Title Pawn is a licensed title pawn business in the State of Georgia, operating from offices in Buford, Gwinnett County, and Oakwood, Hall County.
A title pawn is a pawn transaction governed by Georgia’s Pawnbroker Act. It is not a consumer loan, and it is not extended by a bank or a licensed lender. In a title pawn, your vehicle’s certificate of title serves as pledged collateral.
This distinction matters because it determines which rules govern the transaction. The terms, the charges, the renewal provisions, and the consequences of nonpayment are all governed by pawn law rather than by lending law.
Georgia’s Pawnbroker Act requires these consumer disclosures so you understand exactly what you’re agreeing to before you sign anything. Unlike a bank loan, a title pawn has its own set of rules, and these consumer disclosures exist to make sure nothing is hidden or assumed. If any part of these disclosures is unclear, ask a team member at either location to walk you through it before you commit.
These consumer disclosures also cover costs directly.
All charges associated with a title pawn at Georgia Title Pawn are disclosed to you in full, in writing, before you sign any agreement. You will know the total cost of the transaction, the length of the pawn period, and your repayment options before you agree to anything.
Charges vary based on the amount pawned and the length of the pawn period, and are set in accordance with Georgia’s Pawnbroker Act.
During the pawn period, Georgia Title Pawn holds your vehicle’s certificate of title as collateral. You retain possession of the vehicle and may continue to drive it.
The certificate of title must be lien-free and held in your name, or in your business name in the case of a commercial vehicle. You must maintain insurance on the vehicle.
When the title pawn is paid in full, the certificate of title is returned to you.
Our consumer disclosures also explain what happens if you can’t pay on time. If you are unable to pay the title pawn in full at the end of the pawn period, you may be able to renew it for an additional period. Each renewal period carries its own charges. A pawn that is renewed repeatedly will cost more in total than one that is paid off sooner. Renewal terms are explained to you in full before you agree to them.
If a pawn period ends and the title pawn is neither paid nor renewed, the title pawn business has the right under Georgia law to take possession of the vehicle that secures it.
These consumer disclosures apply to all title pawn transactions conducted at either location.
A title pawn is designed for short-term financial needs. It is not a long-term financing solution, and it is not a substitute for a bank loan or a line of credit.
Before entering into a title pawn, consider whether you will be able to repay it at the end of the pawn period. Consider whether another option available to you would cost less. If your need is long term, a title pawn is likely the wrong tool, and we will tell you so.
Do not pawn a vehicle you cannot afford to risk. These consumer disclosures exist to help you make that decision with full information.
If anything in these consumer disclosures raises a question, contact us directly.
